Guide
How to play flick football
Flick football is football played with discs. Each team has five of them, a goalkeeper and four outfield players, and there’s one ball. You take turns flicking one disc at a time to pass, block and shoot. This guide covers the controls, the rules of every mode in Flick Football and a few tips to start winning.
1. The pitch and the pieces
The pitch is tall, with a goal at each end. Your goal is always at the bottom of your screen and you attack up the pitch. Walls run all the way round, so the ball never goes out of play: there are no throw-ins and no corners.
- Discs: five per team, painted with the flag of the country you play for. The disc with the glove badge (🧤) is your goalkeeper and starts on your goal line.
- The ball: lighter and faster than a disc. It only moves when something hits it.
- The goals: the ball can go in, the discs can’t. Discs bounce off the goal line just like a wall, which is how a goalkeeper blocks a shot.
2. Controls: pick, pull, flick
- Pick a disc. Touch one of your discs. When your turn starts, the disc nearest the ball is picked for you, so you can go straight away.
- Pull back like a slingshot. Drag away from the direction you want the disc to go. You can start the pull anywhere on the screen, so your finger never hides the disc. The further you pull, the harder the flick; you’ll feel a small tick at every quarter of power.
- Read the aim guide. A dashed line shows where your disc will travel and the first thing it will hit. If that’s the ball, a gold arrow shows where the ball will go. How far the guide reaches depends on your disc set’s Aim stat.
- Let go to flick. To cancel, drag back to where you started and release.
Your opponent sees your aim live while you line up, and you see theirs.
3. Turns and the clock
- Teams take turns, one flick each. Everything rolls until it stops, then the other side plays.
- You have 15 seconds per turn (8 in Blitz, 30 in the trick shot). Run out of time and the turn passes.
- If you lose your connection, the game waits for you, but only for a few short turns: three missed turns in a row while you’re disconnected forfeits the match. Leaving a match also counts as a loss.
4. Scoring goals
- A goal counts when the whole ball crosses the goal line between the posts.
- The ball can hit the posts and bounce back out, and the net keeps the ball once it’s in.
- An own goal counts for the other team, so be careful clearing the ball near your own goal.
- Because the walls never stop, a bank shot off a side wall is a real weapon, especially when defenders block the straight line.
5. Kickoff
Each match starts with the ball on the centre spot and both teams lined up in their formations, each in its own half and outside the centre circle. A coin toss decides who kicks off. After every goal everyone lines up again, and the side that conceded kicks off.
6. Game modes and how to win
| Mode | To win | Turn time | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| ⚽ Classic | First to 2 goals | 15 s | Ranked Quick Match plays Classic |
| ⏱️ Blitz | Most goals after 3 minutes | 8 s | Level at full time: golden goal |
| 💥 Power Play | First to 3 goals | 15 s | Power-up orbs on the pitch |
Golden goal: if a Blitz match is level when the clock runs out, play goes on and the next goal wins. If nobody scores within 90 seconds, the match is a draw.
7. Power-ups
In Power Play, everyone starts with one power-up and glowing orbs appear on the pitch. Flick a disc through an orb to collect it; you can hold two at a time (with a full bag, your disc slides over orbs). Tap a power-up before your flick to arm it, then flick to use it.
- 🔥 Rocket: your disc launches at 150% power and weighs double, so it ploughs through a crowded box.
- 💪 Titan: your disc grows huge for one flick. Great for blocking, and it’s hard to miss the ball.
- 💣 Bomb: explodes on first contact and blasts every disc and the ball around it.
8. Disc sets, gold and levels
Your disc set gives all five of your discs two stats: ⚡ Power (how fast they fly; power 10 flicks 22.5% faster than power 1) and 🎯 Aim (how far your aim guide reaches). Everyone starts with Classic. The others, Carbon, Ice, Fire, Neon, Gold, Galaxy and Royal, are unlocked with gold, and each set can be upgraded to level 5 in the Shop.
- Gold: win a match for 60 gold against a person, or 10, 25 or 40 against an Easy, Normal or Hard bot. You also get 100 gold for every level up, gold from the trick shot, and 50 free gold once a day. After a win you can double that match’s gold by watching an ad.
- XP and levels: every match earns XP (more for goals and for winning). Levels unlock new formations and pitch themes: Night Stadium, Sunny Day, Snow, Neon, Desert and Retro.
- Ranked is fair: in ranked matches every disc set plays at the same power and aim. You keep the look, not the upgrades.
9. Formations
Your formation decides where your discs stand at every kickoff. Pick it in Settings once it’s unlocked:
| Formation | Unlocks at | Style |
|---|---|---|
| 2-1-1 Balanced | Level 1 | Two defenders, a midfielder and a striker |
| 1-2-1 Diamond | Level 3 | Wide midfield to cover the flanks |
| 2-2 Wall | Level 6 | Two pairs: hard to break down |
| 1-1-2 Attack | Level 10 | Two strikers up front for quick goals |
10. The daily trick shot
Every day there’s one trick shot, the same for everyone: your two discs, the ball, their goalkeeper and two defenders, and one power-up. You get three flicks and one try per day; the new layout arrives at midnight UTC.
- Score on your first flick for 400 points, your second for 300 or your third for 200.
- Each bank off a side wall before the ball goes in adds 50 (up to 3 banks).
- An own goal costs 50 and ends your try.
Your score goes on the day’s leaderboard, and playing every day builds a streak.
11. Quick Match and ranks
- Ranked: Classic, first to 2, with equal disc stats. Win to raise your rating and climb from 🥉 Bronze through 🥈 Silver, 🥇 Gold and 💠 Platinum to 💎 Diamond.
- Casual: pick a mode, or Any, with no rating at stake.
- If nobody is free within 15 seconds (30 for ranked), you play a bot instead. Bot matches are never ranked.
12. Tips to win
- Keep your keeper home. A keeper on the goal line covers a third of the goal. Pulling it out to attack leaves the net wide open.
- Think one turn ahead. Before you shoot, check which of their discs gets the next flick and where the ball will stop.
- Use the walls. When the straight line is blocked, aim off a side wall. The aim guide shows the first bounce.
- Block lanes. A disc parked between the ball and your goal is often worth more than a hopeful shot.
- Don’t overhit near your own goal. A soft touch that moves the ball sideways beats a hard clearance that bounces back in.
- Practise against bots. Easy, Normal and Hard bots play every mode, so you can learn the angles before you play people.
